The patents cover security, encryption, speech encoding, and wireless data transfer, and Nokia alleges the infringement goes all the way back to the original iPhone launched in 2007.

With regards to suing other people for patent infringement, Apple is usually on the throwing end rather than the receiving end, but today, the tables have turned and Apple is the one being sued this time around by no less than the top dog in the mobile phone biz, Nokia. Citing that Apple Infringed on at least 10 patents for “for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards,” Nokia didn’t go into specifics, but did, however, divulged that the patents covered wireless data, security and encryption, and speech coding.

It all started, more or less, with Amazon’s Kindle. Sure everyone hated the first Kindle’s design but the idea was a hit. Then we saw eBook readers being brought out by companies big and small. Not all of them need mentioning because they were and are very similar to each other. Noteworthy amongst them is Sony though, who does not have a book-selling platform like Amazon to back its devices up. But they have well built devices anyway. Now we have the Barne’s&Noble’s Nook ebook reader.

Ex- Beetle, Paul McCartney will be hosting a live concert at Fenway Park, Boston today August 5th 2009. However it seems that for once his event isn’t entirely sold out yet. Perhaps the novelty of going to see an ex beetle at a baseball pitch isn’t going to fly in this economy? Would you fork out the extra cash to see Paul McCartney play at Fenway Park? Vote YES or Vote NO (Just vote now for a chance to win a FREE Apple iPhone + $50 iTunes Gift Card) Personally I wouldn’t fork out the extra cash for the tickets, let alone the flight to see him play at Fenway.

Nokia surprised the industry by smacking Apple with a patent infringement suit . The Finnish company claims that the iPhone violates ten of Nokia’s patents regarding technology behind smartphone connectivity. From the Nokia press release: “The ten patents in suit relate to technologies fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS (3G WCDMA) and wireless LAN standards. The patents cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007.
