Are you ready for an e-reader named Alex? Spring Design has announced a new e-book reader named Alex that has the privilege of being the first device of its kind to be based on the Google Android operating system.  This allows the device to deliver a new technology called the Duet Navigator which gives you a black and white screen, which is EPD (electronic paper display), up top that will provide hyperlinks to related media to what you are reading and deliver it in the bottom screen which is an LCD color display.

Full browser capability over wi-fi, 3G, EVDO/CDMA, and GSM text and multimedia: text can be dynamically hyperlinked with multimedia for the color LCD screen There will be removable SD card Currently in discussion with content providers plans to release the Alex device for selected strategic partners by the end of this year.

Apple outstripped Wall Street ’s expectations for the quarter ended September 30, and while the blowout quarter was mostly thanks to higher-than-expectedMac sales, the company also sold a record 7.4 million iPhones. But a lot of commentators think that theiPhone is finally going to meet its match with Droid. Announced this weekend by Verizon in a cheeky TV commercial, the Droid is a Motorola phone running Google’s Android 2.0 operating system .

Upon Monday’s excellent earnings news , Apple investors are doubtless sitting back and enjoying the ride. And the higher Apple’s stock rises, the more enjoyable it will become. It’s human nature. But it’s a dangerous feeling. You’ve heard this from me before , but Apple investors should take a hard look at their favorite stock. Yes, the high-flying computer company handily beat forecasts with its latest quarterly results.

Apple has just released its earnings report for Q4 2009. You can listen to the entire earnings call at 5PM EDT/2PM PDT, but the big take-away is that Apple beat estimates and moved more iPhones and Macs than they did during the same period last year. Apple sold 7.4 million iPhones in the quarter, which was a 7% increase in year-over-year growth. On the Mac side, Apple sold 3.05 million computers, a 17% increase year-over-year. iPod sales decreased 8% year-over-year, with 10.2 million units sold.

Everything iThing doesn’t do, Droid does! That is the promotional key used by Verizon since a while to keep their customers excited. The iPhone will soon see a challenge, with the launch of the Motorola Droid , and Verizon is all set to market the phone with a series of anti-iPhone attack ads titled Droid does ! The first ad rolled out recently, directly picking on the iPhone ’s most commonly-cited shortcomings: non-replaceable battery, lack of flash in camera, lack of a physical keyboard etc.
