Google Voice is  one of my favorite new tools I’ve begun using this year.  Don’t confuse this with voice activated search on your phone, Google Voice is a new phone number assigned to you by Google.  A phone number that saves you and your friends and family time and frustration.  People don’t have to make a decision to call you at home, work, or on your  mobile… no, they call one number and you decide where that number rings.  The best part for you… no more listening to long voicemail!!!  Google

Circle October 20th on your calendars folks. Barnes & Noble sent out invitations to the media for a New York-based event on that day – a day most suspect will be the official unveiling of Barnes & Noble’s entry into the e-reader market. The media has been buzzing about this ever since the Wall Street Journal and Gizmodo reported last Thursday that B&N was planning to enter the market with their own 6 inch touch-screen device based around the Google Android OS to compete against Amazon and Sony.  While B&N entering the e-reader market isn’t necessarily a surprise, what is surprising is the rumor about the possible use of Android as the OS.

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Apple Corporate , Odds and ends It’s the end of an era for the relationship between Google and Apple — Google has announced that Dr. Arthur Levinson has resigned from its board of directors, meaning that the last common member between the boards of the two companies has now “chosen a side,” so to speak. I doubt it was that serious, but you never know: the Department of Justice had announced that they were looking into the connections between the two boards, with both former Apple boardmember and Google CEO Eric Schimidt being one link, and Levinson being the other.

Acer is preparing to unleash its first netbook running the Google Android operating system on the world before the end of the year. The netbook will be an Acer Aspire D250 laptop which will actually dual boot Google Android and Windows XP. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure there’s a huge demand for netbooks with both operating systems, since you’ll end up paying for the Windows license anyway. An Android-only netbook would undoubtedly be cheaper.

The Android powered Acer Aspire One D250 netbook is now ready for pre-order on Amazon. If you are not certain if you want the D250 running on Android OS, then you also have the option for a Windows 7 version sometime next week. ( Hands-on review ) If you choose to go for the Android version, then you will have dual booting between Google Android and Microsoft’s Windows XP. The netbook is powered by an Atom N280 processor and has just 1GB of RAM. The 5800mAh 6-cell battery is the highest in its range, offering up to 9 hours of usage.
