I still don’t much about the Linux-based Plaszma operating system on the Zii EGG , but information abut the native browser landed today. A version of the popular Opera mobile browser will be fully integrated into the ZMS-05 processor powering the device. As I read it, the Opera Devices SDK version 9.7 is what the EGG will work with, much like the Opera browser on the Nintendo DS handheld gaming device. Although the EGG supports Google Android, my suspicion is that Opera won’t be available when running Android — only in the Plaszma environment.

Opera Mobile 9.7 is a great alternative browser for Windows Mobile and Symbian, but so far it hasn’t been available on other smart phone platforms. In an interview with PCMag.com today, Opera Software CEO Jon von Tetzchner said the browser might come to Google Android – though he didn’t say when. “Yes, we are working on an Android version,” von Tetzchner said. Opera Mobile is a full-fledged browser that renders HTML pages on your device and supports widgets that reside on your phone.

A Google Android costume! Very nice. In the video below, Gabe McGuinness shows off what is probably the world’s first and only Google Android costume, and also explains how he made it for around $150. As most of you know, Android is Google’s popular operating system for mobile phones and devices. How wonderfully nerdy. Thanks to Amber for the tip! Bislang war Linux für den Microsoft-Konzern offiziell keine Bedrohung. Den “Krebs” Linux meint man in den Griff zu bekommen. Doch die US-Börsenaufsichtsbehörde SEC spricht eine andere Sprache. I guess that whole Google Android revolution thing at Rogers Wireless hasn’t been quite as popular as the Canadian GSM carrier had hoped. Now that they’re left with a bunch of Android phones with nowhere to go, Rogers has slashed the price again on both the HTC Dream and the HTC Magic. Whether you opt for the touchscreen-only HTC Magic or you go for the QWERTY keyboard-touting HTC Dream, you can expect to spend the exact same amount of money. Possibly targeting the back to school crowd, Rogers has reduced the price on both phones to just $79.99.
